Bordallo Pinhiero was one of Portugal's most famous cartoonists of the 19th century. He studied at an art school as a young man and then painted caricatures in the newspaper. In 1884 he and his brother started a ceramics factory in Caldas. He was responsible for technology and design and created several iconic works until his death in 1905. The production is still in Portugal today and Bordallo Pinhiero's playful ceramics are sold all over the world.
