A handheld portion mortar inspired by the natural weight of cast iron. A mortar that borders on art without compromising its function. The handheld portion mortar, Gravitas, is innovative and forward-thinking. Its function is inspired by the natural weight of cast iron. Its design is patented, and it is handcrafted in Sweden from locally recycled metal. The cast iron is seasoned with three layers of certified and cold-pressed rapeseed oil, produced only a few miles from our foundry.
The mortar works by allowing a portion of what you desire to be dropped through the top opening. This could be, for example, pepper, nuts, spices, salt, or dried herbs. Then, you hold the mortar in your hand and rotate or shake it, allowing the weight of the solid iron ball inside the mortar to process your spices. The ball crushes or grinds the content, depending on how long you rotate or shake the mortar.
The mortar can be turned without all the contents pouring out at once. The inside of the upper half allows appropriately sized portions of the content to come out, while the ball blocks most of the opening. The mortar remains securely sealed thanks to a threaded overlap of the halves. The halves can be easily unscrewed for cleaning. - Characteristics
