Herrnhuter

The Herrnhut Star from the German company Herrnhuter Stern is the characteristic Advent star that was the first widely spread Advent star. The Herrnhut Star was the Advent star that was introduced and laid the foundation for the tradition in Sweden. The Advent star was developed in Herrnhut in Oberlausitz (in Saxony) as part of the Herrnhut movement (a religious Christian movement). This also led to the star being spread by missionaries. The background of the star dates back to the early 19th century. In 1821, during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the boarding school in Niesky, a luminous star was set up. Later, they began to hang them at various boarding schools in Niesky, Neuwied, Königsfeld im Schwarzwald, and Kleinwelka in connection with the first Advent. Over time, they started to manufacture stars as part of the annual Christmas crafts that boarding school students had. And a new tradition was born.
