Small talk: Crème Atelier

#1

Tell us more about yourselves and how Crème Atelier came about.

We are a couple with a shared interest in design and craftsmanship. Jaqueline has a background in marketing, while Lucas specializes in UX design. We are quite restless souls and have moved around quite a bit in recent years – buying apartments that we have renovated and, in the process, creating some furniture for our own use. When our friends expressed appreciation for the furniture, a seed was planted – maybe we could create something that we could sell? We both have a fondness for lamps, so we decided to create our own.

#2

How did you get into this field?

The fact that we started with 3D printing was a bit of a coincidence. After we came up with the idea to create something together, we began looking for sustainable materials and manufacturing methods, and we stumbled upon 3D printing. On the same day, we ordered our first printer and started experimenting!

#3

Why specifically 3D printing?

We believe it is the future in many industries, especially in interior design and the furniture industry, and the technology is advancing rapidly! There are many advantages – you can keep production local, and you can work quickly! Going from having an idea to holding the physical object in your hand within a few hours is amazing!

#4

Have you always had an interest in design/technology?

The interest in design has always been there. Jaqueline has a strong interest in interior design and architecture, while Lucas has a background in UX design and also industrial design, as he invented the plaster anchor "Duck Foot" a few years ago – a product sold in hardware stores across the country. As for the interest in technology, it's more of a necessary evil.

#5

Tell us more about your product.

Each lampshade and lamp base is manufactured using our 3D printers. This type of manufacturing method is called additive manufacturing, which means that the material is added layer by layer (similar to how an ice cream machine works). The material we use is a bioplastic made from recycled food packaging.

#6

What distinguishes your design?

Timeless and minimalist with a modern twist.

#7

Where do you find inspiration?

A major source of inspiration has been desserts and pastries. Humans eat as much with their eyes as with their mouths, and we are drawn to the organic and seductive aesthetics. There is something very appealing about the shapes and textures.

#8

Finally, where do you see yourselves and your company in 3 years?

Our focus moving forward is to scale up. The plan is to have a more large-scale production, move it to a bigger location, and expand our operations. We will also spend a lot of time releasing new products and entering new markets.
