CURTAIN GUIDE

Decorate with textiles to transform the atmosphere in a room. Curtains are so much more than just a practical solution. They can also provide a unique and personal character in a room. Curtains can transform a dull and lifeless room into a warm and inviting oasis, an effective and easy way to add a personal touch to your home.

A thin linen curtain that allows soft light to filter through can make a room feel larger, brighter, and more spacious, while a thick curtain in a robust fabric can create a cozy and snug feeling. Whatever mood you're seeking, it's the details that are key.

With a carefully curated range from the Swedish brand Astrid Textiles, we have assembled a collection of curtains that suit every room in your home. Astrid's exceptional textiles, with their unique colors, textures, and quality, have the ability to transform a room into a striking environment.

To create a luxurious and cozy feel, we recommend curtains with a generous width and a slight drape towards the floor.

Curtain Guide - Here's How It Works!

Our curtains from Astrid Textiles are custom-made to your desired length at a fixed price, up to a maximum of 300 cm. The curtains come in two standard widths and are sewn with a discreet pleat tape suitable for curtain rails.

Our experienced seamstress, Kemal, custom tailors the curtains in his workshop south of Stockholm. To achieve a heavy and elegant draping, our curtains are sewn with side hems and a generous bottom hem. The bottom hem is sewn with a 10x10 cm fold, allowing you to lower the curtain at a later stage, for example, when moving to a place with higher ceilings.

The curtains are delivered within 4-6 weeks from the date of the order.

How do you choose the width of your curtains?

Choose whether you want your curtain to be single or double width. The width of the different fabrics can also vary depending on differences in manufacturing methods and materials. A good guideline is that the curtain should be approximately half the width when hung up.

A general rule when it comes to curtains is to choose a width that is twice as wide as the window. This way, the curtains will look nice even when drawn closed. If there is enough space, we always recommend choosing wide curtains because more fabric and pleats create a more exclusive and cozy feel. If you choose curtains in a single width when you have high ceilings, there is a risk that the curtains will look disproportionate.

With pleat tape suspension using finger hooks, you get an elegant and timeless curtain with even and fine pleats on the front, creating a soft and cozy feeling. By using different finger hooks, you can vary the style of the pleats and thus create a nice drape on your curtain. The final width of the curtain depends on how closely you place the finger hooks. A good guideline for the distance between the finger hooks is to thread the hook into every third channel on the curtain's pleat tape. For a double-width curtain, this would be approximately 18 hooks. For a single-width curtain, it would be approximately 10 hooks.

Tips

Do you want to widen a window? Let your curtain lengths hang on each side of the window. This way, you create the illusion of a wider window area, which also gives the feeling of a larger room.

Do you want to widen the entire room? Hang the curtains on a ceiling track along the entire wall to create spaciousness.

If you have space, feel free to hang several curtain lengths next to each other. At Tambur, we like to use different shades and textures to create a more vibrant expression.

How do you measure the length of your curtains?

Before measuring the length of your curtain, you need to decide whether your curtain track will hang on the wall or the ceiling.

You measure the length of the curtain in the same way regardless of whether your curtain track is attached to the wall or ceiling.

- Measure from the bottom edge of the curtain track glide down to the floor at two to three different points.
- Start with the shortest measurement and add your desired length for the draping. Read more about draping/trailing on the floor below.

Draping

We recommend choosing a length where the curtain rests on the floor. Typically, we add an extra 5-10 cm for the curtain to lightly rest on the floor and 15-30 cm for a more draped feeling.

For minimal trailing on the floor, measure as described above and instead add approximately 1 cm.

For a curtain that is exactly level with the floor, measure as described above without adding 1 cm.

For a curtain that hovers above the floor, measure as described above and subtract the desired length

Our curtain fabrics are made of natural materials, and like all natural materials, the fibers have a tendency to move and change size depending on their natural characteristics. This means that the length of the curtain may vary throughout the year due to changes in humidity and temperature. The curtain may also have a tendency to "hang down," meaning it becomes slightly longer over time.

Choosing curtains can sometimes feel complicated, but it's actually quite simple. If you would like further guidance and information, you are warmly welcome to call, email, or visit us in one of our stores, and we will be happy to assist you further.
